Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief was an interesting attempt to create a new Harry Potter type film. They had the guy who started Harry Potter, Chris Columbus direct it. Problem is the movie lacked a solid flow. It was really corny at times mixed in with some solid action pieces. The movie didn’t exactly dominate the American box office. It still made $227 million world wide. That’s not too shabby. So Fox 2000 is pushing the sequel which will bring back most of its cast including Logan Lerman who played Percy.

Why this made the news was because a director has been attached, Thor Freudenthal has been given the task to start the franchise back up. First off his name is Thor which is amazing! He just came off a modest hit with Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which is most likely the reason he was given the sequel. Who knows how he’ll handle the action scenes. Still his name is Thor so I’m sure he can handle it.

The second film I guess will have elements of the first book that never made it to screen and then follow the second books story. Percy and friends set out to find the Golden Fleece to help free a friend that has been captured. Doesn’t sound overly original but I’m willing to give it a try. With Harry Potter and other franchises coming to an end it will be interesting to see what studios will do to keep existing franchises alive.
